General Info
February 6, 2000. We had just come out of "Ice Storm 2000" and survived the feared 1999-2000 rollover. ( Remember the extra jugs of water and oil lanterns stored in your basement, you know, just in case? ) The leadership and people of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church in Marietta, Georgia, generously provided start-up funds and organizational covering for a new church to be planted in Alpharetta. With anticipation, 31 adults and 38 children unloaded four trailers full of staging equipment, media and chairs with hopes that people would show up for Stonecreek Church's first worship gathering: 10: 30 a.m. at the rented Alpharetta Community Center. The day's message was "Stressbusters: How to Handle Stress at Home, " an appropriate message for the two full-time staff pastors who had transplanted their families in an unfamiliar city with only the future ahead. To our surprise, 524 people gathered that day ( 88 preschoolers, 46 children and 390 adults and students ), and the Lord began building Stonecreek Church. It was Jesus who said, "I will build my Church, and the gates of Hell will not overpower it." We could ramble on about what we believe are our successes and failures, and provide you with a chronological timeline of organizational growth and development. But what seems most important about our story as a local church is the work that God is doing inside each of us. Jesus came to give us life ; and, life does not exist in brick and mortar. Sure, we have a physical address and beautiful buildings. But that's not really Stonecreek Church, and buildings alone don't tell much of a story. To truly know our story, you need to know us. The people of Stonecreek Church. Our individual stories are like threads that intertwine and strengthen as they interlock. We're fashioned together' a tapestry of sorts' displaying the restoring work of our Creator. Today, Stonecreek Church has welcomed hundreds of individuals into the Kingdom of God and has been a light to show others a path of freedom found in the Gospel message. Over 1, 200 people gather each Sunday united under a common purpose: pursuing life in Jesus as our greatest passion. Daily, as we learn to walk with God in every aspect of life, we are becoming truer to our mission. We certainly have not arrived at our destination yet, and our story continues to be written. What's missing? Quite frankly, we're missing your story. And we welcome the opportunity to be a part of the story God is writing in you.
