- Dental ExaminationVital Smiles Georgia wants to ensure that your kids have positive experiences with oral hygiene and dental visits. As a parent, you play an important role in how your kids react to dental exams. Below you will find a few helpful tips to prepare them for their first dental visit...
- X-rays
- Teeth CleaningWe will thoroughly and patiently walk your kid through each step as it happens. You can even watch the dental cleaning from the observation area.
- Fluoride TreatmentAfterward, we may apply bubbles or jelly, a fluoride treatment that will help strengthen your kid’s teeth and keep them healthy. Remember, through regular cleanings, we can keep the sugar bugs away and keep your kid’s smile healthy for years to come.
- Dental SealantsDental sealants are a great way to protect your kid’s permanent teeth, especially if they are prone to cavities. This thin, clear coating helps to protect the grooves of their teeth from decay. Typically, the sealant is added to the first and second molars, and it lasts up to several years. Talk with your kid’s dentist about whether this option is right for your kids. Your insurance company may cover this procedure before the age of 13.
- Fillings
- CrownsA crown, or as we call it, a Prince/Princess crown, is a covering that fits over a tooth that has been severely decayed, damaged or cracked. This protects the tooth and the remaining structure. Crowns allow for proper chewing, speech, and the preparation of the permanent tooth.
- Root Canal TreatmentCavities, or dental caries, result when bacteria break down the tooth. Several factors contribute to cavity formation including the strength of the tooth, saliva flow (which cleanses the mouth), sugar intake, bacteria levels, and length of exposure to bacteria. The cavity may begin forming in the tooth enamel or in the substance that covers the root, call the cementum. The cavity then expands into the internal sections of the tooth, such as the dentin or the tooth pulp. If left untreated, the cavity can eventually affect the nerve and roots of the tooth, causing extreme sensitivity and pain. A cavity this large can even lead to nerve infection. At this point, a root canal or extraction will be required.
