Dr. Pennington is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is fellowship trained in hand and microvascular surgery. He has special interests in hand surgery, complex extremity reconstruction, advanced skin cancer reconstruction, melanoma and cosmetic surgery.Dr. Pennington was born in Westchester, Pa. His family moved many times in his first few years , but settled in Ashland, Ky., near both of his parents' homes. Growing up in a small town in the Appalachian Mountains, his parents instilled a sense of family values, frequently traveling into the hart of Appalachia visiting grandparents. His father, an engineer, and his mother, an operating room nurse, expected hard work in life and school. Dr. Pennington graduated from Paul G. Blazer High School in Ashland, Ky., in 1977. He graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1981 with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, then continuing on to the College of Medicine and graduating in 1985. Dr. Pennington completed his general surgery training in West Virginia prior to completing his plastic surgery training in Akron, Ohio. One year of intense training in hand and microsurgery surgery was completed at the Christine M. Kleinert Institute for Hand and Microvascular Surgery in Louisville, Ky., in 1993. He has been in the private practice of plastic surgery for over 20 years.Dr. Pennington and his wife, Paula, have two grown children, Jessica and Kevin. Jessica lives in Lexington, Ky., and is the animal cruelty investigator for Fayette County and a dog trainer. Kevin lives in Doylestown and works for Acme Markets.Dr.Pennington and Paula travel several times a year with recent trips to Yellowstone, Glacier, and The Great Smokey Mountains National Parks. Frequent trips to Florida and the Caribbean to satisfy winter fishing and warmth occur yearly. They currently reside in New Franklin.

First time seeing Dr. Pennington and I would definitely recommend. He was clear and concise on his diagnosis without using too much medical terminology so I could understand and lead a clear path to future options. We also had a nice conversation about the Kentucky Bourbon Trail during my appointment. It was nice for a doctor to spend a couple extra minutes to talk and get to know me without feeling super rushed through the appointment or like I was “just another patient” during the day.
Will definitely go back.

Dr. Pennington explained my procedure in detail, what to expect and how long recovery would take. He put my mind at ease as to what to expect. He was very friendly and easy to talk to and ask questions.

Dr. Pennington and his staff went above and beyond to make my experience as comfortable as possible from the consultation to post op to day of surgery the entire team worked together and were very informative and kind.
Dr. Pennington did a phenomenal job with my surgery. I knew what to expect and has explained everything to me thru each step.
Dr.Pennington, listened to me, explained the proceedure and when I was having an issue with dissolving stitches his staff got me in right away for him to check them out.

Dr. Pennington is a wonderful doctor! He is patient, knowledgeable, and more than good to me. I am always more than happy and satisfied when leaving his office. Dr Pennington was cool. He made me feel relaxed during my office visit and explained my surgery very well. I was not nervous at all the day of my surgery. And my incision looks awesome!
I have only good things to say. I never had a problem with appointments and trusted his knowledge of carpal tunnel, understanding my symptoms and having me take a nerve test to back up his prognosis. He checked on me in surgery both before and after my surgery. I had clear cut directions as to how to care for my post surgery.
I would highly recommend him to anyone with similar problems. He is competent and kind.

Dr Pennington does fantastic work! I went in for a procedure and we discussed everything I was looking for, advised me on areas that were less treatable and why, and explained the entire process to me. Everything went exactly as described, and the results were amazing. Every single person I met and worked with on his staff were absolutely wonderful. I would absolutely go back and recommend to others!
Dr. Pennington talked me right through all that was happening. Atmosphere was clean and quiet and I felt very comfortable having a minor procedure done there. Should I need more w done I will definitely come back!!
