The Aiken County Emergency Management Division provides overall coordination during major emergencies, such as hurricanes, tornados, hazardous materials incidents and other natural and manmade disasters. It offers natural and technological hazard planning and mitigation, the administration of the hazardous materials team and program management of chemical, ordnance, biological and radiological team. The division is also responsible for the coordination of the local emergency planning committee to prepare for and respond to chemical emergencies. The Aiken County Emergency Management Division has an emergency operations center that conducts activation, training, drills and exercises, as well as handles the maintenance of the facility. It operates a communication center that coordinates responses to police, fire and medical emergencies. The division works under the government of Aiken County in South Carolina.
