The Department of Public Works operates under the government of the city of Aiken in South Carolina. It is responsible for activities related to the planning, construction, maintenance and operation of municipal utilities, public ways, garbage collection, city buildings, parks and other physical properties of the city. The Department of Public Works operates through administration, utilities, public services, garage and engineering divisions. Its administration division maintains the records for the department and acts as liaison with the city manager and council. The department s public services division is responsible for garbage, trash and recycling pickup in the city. Its engineering division reviews development plans of the city and provides technical assistance to other departments with construction projects. In addition, the Department of Public Works maintains water and storm sewer mains in the city.
